Rish, the Swedes and Em Bamford stand proud at Tom Mathias Memorial FIS races
Last week saw Mt Buller host the second annual Tom Mathias Memorial FIS races.
isft. ambassador Mike Rishworth went to the gates for 2 days of racing alongside a loaded international field including representatives from Sweden, Austria, United Kingdom, USA and Solvakia. With the isft. banner perched across from the start, almost all competitors took on the Buller Spur course with the isft. logo sported proudly on their helmets.

Pre-race training (L to R) Johan Oehagen (SWE), isft. ambassador Mike Rishworth (AUS), Fredrik Soederberg (SWE) and Tim Lindgren (SWE).
“It was great to see so much stoke on the mountain for the cause… isft. everywhere, then the three Swedes (Johan Oehagen, Tim Lindgren and Fredrik Soederberg) and Rish (Mike Rishworth) taking the top four places on the first race of day one was awesome”, one competitor said.
Mt Buller locals including Emily Bamford (winner of race one, day one, Women’s Open), Anton Grimus and Tomi Crewes skied well over the two days to assert themselves early in their southern hemisphere campaigns.
The course was technical and tough in places but was said to have held up extraordinarily well over the 2 days of racing.
All official results can be found at:

It was Fredrick Soederberg of Sweden who stood proudly to receive the Tom Mathias Cup presented by Tom’s mother, Julie with Barabara Kantrova of Slovakia taking out the Women’s Championship narrowly ahead of Australia’s Emily Bamford.

Julie Mathias, Stoffl Maier and Mark Cicchiello with Swedish Athletes (back, L to R) Johan Oehagen, Fredrik Soederberg (Champion), Tim Lindgren and isft. ambassador Mike Rishworth of Australia.
isft. extends its congratulations and gratitude to all competitors, supervisors, officials and coaches for making the races such a success with a special thank you to Mt Buller Race Club for having embraced our involvement.
